Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve solvent performance and enhance safety as well as attain reaction efficiency, by a method wherein a fraction with b.p. of 200°C or more obtained by the liquefaction of coal is subjected to hydrogenation treatment and the obtained product is further subjected to hydrogenation treatment and used as a solvent for liquefaction of coal.
CONSTITUTION: Coal 7 and a solvent 8 are mixed under stirring in a stirring tank 1 to form a slurry and this slurry is sent into a heating furnace 2 by a pump P. The high-temp. slurry heated to a predetermined temp. is completely reacted in a dissolving tank 3 and the gas generated in this dissolving tank is extracted from an upper portion thereof. A liquid substance is overflowed into a distillation tower 4 and, herein, the reacted product is fractionated into a light fraction with b.p. of 200°C or less, a reaction product with b.p. of 200°C or more and an unreacted residue. The reaction product with b.p. of 200°C or more is introduced along with H2 gas 9 into a hydrogenation tower 5 to be hydrogenated and, subsequently, the hydrogenated product is introduced along with H2 gas 9 into a hydrogenation tower 6 where it is subjected again to hydrogenation treatment and the obtained product is circulated and used as a solvent for liquefaction of coal. Unreacted H2 gas is also circulated and used.
