Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the performance of a coal liquefaction solvent and to improve safety in operation and thereby to carry out the reaction efficiently, by employing, as the coal liquefaction solvent, a specific fraction separated from the product obtained by liquefying coal.
CONSTITUTION: Coal 7 and a solvent 8 are mixed together in a mixing tank 1 and form a slurry. This slurry is fed to a heating furnace 2, heated to a predetermined temperature and liquified in a dissolution tank 3. The gas and light oil 10 formed is separated. Next, the liquid product is fed to a distillation column 4, and separated into a light fraction having a b.p. ≤200°C, component A having a b.p. of 200W 210°C, component D having a b.p. of 211W250°C and component E having a b.p. ≥250°C. Then, component D together with hydrogen gas 9 is fed to a hydrogenation tower 5, and after hydrogenation, fed together with hydrogen gas 9 to a hydrogenation tower 6. Then, this hydrogenated component D is mixed with part or all of component A, and at least 50% resulting mixture is mixed with at most 50% component E. The final mixture is circulated as the coal liquefaction solvent 8 to the mixing tank 1.
