Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect shaft torsion with high sensitivity and reliability without contacting by forming segments on the circumferential surface of a rotating shaft at equal intervals and in the axial direction, by irradiating them with two spot beams of a small diameter in the axial direction and at an interval of prescribed distance, and by detecting the phase difference between the reflected light beams. CONSTITUTION:Onto the circumferential surface of rotating shaft 1, thin lines 2 of about 100mm. in length are provided in the axial direction and at prescribed pitches (several - tens mum).
