Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:An anthracycline compound shown by the formula I (R1 is H or OH; R2 is 5W10C 1-alkyloxyethyl) and its acid addition salt.
EXAMPLE: 4'-O-(1-Propyloxyethyl)adriamycin a and its epimer b.
USE: A carcinostatic agent. Lower toxicity than adriamycin and daunomycin. Having antimicrobial power against varous kinds of microorganisms, especially Grampositive bacteria.
PROCESS: The OH at 4' position of a compound shown by the formula II (R3 is H or 2W7C alkanoyloxy or phenylacetoxy) is reacted with a 5W10C alkylvinyl ether reacting with OH and having an alkyloxyethyl group so that the 1-alkyloxyethyl group is introduced, and when R3 is other than H, the acyl group is removed, to give the titled compound shown by the formula I (R1 is OH).
