Abstract

PURPOSE:To decrease the number of workers and incidental facilities when connecting several optical fiber cables, by permitting light, supplied from a following- cable side, to take U-turn motion to return by temporarily connecting fibers of the endmost preceding cable each other. CONSTITUTION:When a light transmission line is constituted by connecting optical fiber cables 1, 2, and 2', ends of optical fibers 4 and 10 of preceding cable 1 laid at the endmost part are connected temporarily at one terminal. Next, optical fiber 4 and optical fiber 4' of following cable 2 are connected temporarily to connection terminal 6. Light of light source 5 from temporarily connecting terminal 8 of optical fiber 4' is sent into optical fiber 4' and after a light output appearing at connection terminal 6 by taking U-turn motion is measured, optical fibers 10 and 10' are connected together eternally to measure the light output of said terminal 8, thereby calculating the connection loss. Next, temporarily connected part 12 is disconnected and then connected eternally in the same method. This is repeated to make connections, so that the number of workers and the telephone cable length for communication are decreased.
