Abstract

PURPOSE:To simplify branching and connection work of an optical cable used for line construction work by coating or twisting plural optical unit cables which are obtained by collecting plural optical fiber cores around each tensile strength element and coating them with outer covering respectively to form the optical cable. CONSTITUTION:An optical unit cable 15 constituting an optical cable 18 used for line construction work is formed by collecting optical fiber cores 4 around a center tensil strength element 3 and attaching a buffer layer 5 and outer coating 14 around the optical fiber cores. The plural unit cables 15 are collected around the center tensile strength element 1 and coated with a lap tape 16 and cable outer covering 17 to form a complete optical cable 18. To branch the cable 18, the covering 17 is removed by the length required up to a manhole 10 after distributing the cable and a calbe 15 to be branched is cut off and connected to an optical cable 12 to be branched. Since a sufficiently long cable 15 from which the covering 17 has been removed is prepared, the remaining length used for connection can be secured, so that a miniatulized covering connector 19 can be used.
