Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a chemical container almost free from embrittlement in water of high temp. and pressure, an H2 atmosphere or the like and slightly causing stress corrosion cracking by using an austenitic stainless steel, as an inner layer material, which contains a predetermined percentage each of Mn, N and B so that the chemical components have the composition in the perfect austenite region.
CONSTITUTION: A carbon steel or a low alloy steel such as SB46 steel and an austenitic stainless steel are used as outer and inner layer materials for a chemical container, respectively. The chemical components of the stainless steel part of the container having a two-layer or multilayer structure metallographically are prescribed as follows: 3W8wt% Mn, 0.08W0.4wt% N, 0.002W0.08wt% B and the balance the same chemical components as an ordinary stainless steel has. Values of the components calculated by the equations are essentially in the perfect austenite region of the Delong's phase diagram. As a result, the embrittlement of α-phase due to heat treatment is prevented in the manufacture of the container, and the hydrogen embrittlement of the container can be prevented in water of high temp. and pressure, a hydrogen atmosphere or the like during use.
