Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance the electrolyte-holding ability as well as the mechanical strength of a molten-carbonate fuel cell whose electrolyte is made of an alkali carbonate, by employing a fiberlike potassium titanate as an electrolyte-holding material. CONSTITUTION:An electrolyte-holding material made of a fiberlike potassium titanate holds the electrolyte of a fuel cell which is made of an alkali carbonate. The electrolyte-holding material of the battery is preferred to consists of 30-60wt% of a fiberlike potassium titanate and 40-70wt% of an alkali carbonate. If it is desirable, the electrolyte-holding ability can be increased by using an electrolyte-holding material which is made up of a mixture consisting of over 50wt% of the fiberlike potassium titanate, and a powderlike potassium titanate. As the former fiberlike potassium titanate 4-6-potassium titanate, especially 6-potassium titanate, is preferred.
