Abstract

PURPOSE: To feed a given rate of secondary air securely covering overall load range by a method wherein a throttle unit and a regulating valve interlocked with an engine load are provided in parallel in an exhaust passage, and the secondary air feed passage is connected to the throttle unit.
CONSTITUTION: An exhaust gas from an engine 1 enters an exhaust turbine 5 through an exhaust passage 16, which is rotated to drive a direct-coupled blower type compressor 6. In this case, a turbosupercharger 4 rotates slowly in a low load range for which a throttle valve 10 opens small, and a regulating valve 23 in a by-pass passage 22 is kept close. The exhaust gas therefore passes a tube nozzle 17, and a low pressure range is formed in a port 18, therefore the secondary air is sucked from a passage 20. On the other hand, the turbosupercharger 4 rotates quickly in a high load range for which the throttle valve 10 opens large, and thus the regulating valve 23 is opened. The exhaust gas therefore flows in both the tube nozzle 17 and the by-pass passage 22, the secondary air is sucked from the passage 20, and a pressure loss before and after the tube nozzle 17 can be decreased.
