Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:4-Formylchroman derivatives of formula I (R1WR3 are H, alkyl, aryl, alkoxy, aryloxy, acyloxy; R4 and R5 are H, alkyl, aryl, alkoxy, wherein R1W R5 cannot be hydrogen atoms at a time).
EXAMPLE: 4-Formyl-2-isobutyroxychroman.
USE: Synthetic intermediates of medicines and agricultural chemicals.
PREPARATION: A readily available β-alkoxystyrene derivative of formula II is oxidized using visible rays in the presence of a photosensitizer and the product is made to react with a mono- or cis-1,2-di-substituted ethylene derivative to form the compound of formula I.
