Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve corrosion resistance without loss in magnetic characteristics, by addn. of a specific amount of In to an Fe-Si-Al magnetic alloy.
CONSTITUTION: To an alloy comprising as a basis, by weight, 8W12 % Si, 4W8 % Al, 0.05W2.0 % In, the balance being Fe are added as subcomponents one or more members 0.001W7 % in total selected from the group consisting of 0.1W5 % Cr, Mo, W, V, Nb, Ta, Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, and Sn; 0.01W3 % Ti, Zr, Hf, Y, and elements of lanthanum series; 0.001W0.5 % P. The steel is prevented from rust formation in wet atmosphere because of the addn. of In, and has excellent corrosion resistance due to the addn. of specific amounts of the subcomponents and its magnetic characteristics hardly decreases, hence it is suited for core material of magnetic heads. This alloy is prepared by vacuum melting and ingot casting method or by powder metallurgy process using an electric arc furnace.
