Abstract

PURPOSE: To cast the thin-walled cast steel product free from high temperature cracking by substituting the places shaping the thick-wall portions of the casting with the molding sand using water glass as a binder.
CONSTITUTION: The mold or core is made by organic base sand such as oil sand 3 and furan sand which exhibit superior effect in sand-strip characteristic after pouring, but the angle corner parts corresponding to the thick-wall portions of the casting thereof are made by the sand 2 prepared by compounding water glass to the aggregate of silica sand, alumina sand or mullite sand alone or their mixture. The water glass to be used is preferably the one of molar ratios 2W3.5 and specific gravities 1.1W1.6 and it is preferable that the completed mold be dried and hardened at 230W260°C prior to pouring. The cooling capacity of the core mold is preferably ratios of 0.7W0.8 with the oil sand mold or organic-base sand mold and 1 with water-glass-base mold.
