Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve a wear-resistant layer and elongate life characteristic by providing on a substrate a heater layer, electrodes, and a wear-resistant protective layer formed of a compound material in which uniformly dispersed a highly hard first ingredient and a second ingredient less harder than the first one.
CONSTITUTION: A thermal head is formed by providing at least a heater layer, electrodes, and a wear-resistant protective layer 6 on a substrate. The layer 6 is formed of a compound material in which are uniformly dispersed a highly hard first ingredient 61 (such as a compound formed by combining Ti, Mo, W, V, Nb, Zr, Ta, or Si with C, B, or N) and a second ingredient 62 less harder than the first one 61 such as a pure metal (Au, Ni, Cr, Ta, Ti, or Zr), an oxide (SiO2, Ta2O3, TiO2, or ZrO2), and glass.
