Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce the GaSb thin strip for which strict stoichiometric composition is required with good productivity by letting the molten GaSb spout from a nozzle onto the cooling body surface which is moving in a fixed direction at the specified relative speed.
CONSTITUTION: Base material of molten GaSb is charged into a melting furnace 2 and a cell 1 is deaerated to a vacuum state. After the deaeration, the cell inside is held intact or is substituted with inert gas such as Ar. Thence, the base material of molten GaSb is melted by supplying current to a coil 24. After this, the Ar or the like is applied with the specified pressure through exhaust port 26 to let the molten liquid be spouted from a nozzle 21 in the arrow direction to the outside circumferential part of a rotary cooling roll 41. The molten GaSb is cooled on the outside peripheral surface of a roll 41 and is made to a thin strip which then moves in the arrow b direction on a guide band 13 and is captured in a capturing part 12. In this case, the speed of the cooling roll 41 is made 1cm/sec or more with respect to the nozzle 21, preferably 1W104cm/sec.
