Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce the metal powder of high quality at high performance by connecting a powder-capturing chamber having an atmosphere regulating mechanism to a plasma jet generator.
CONSTITUTION: Voltage is applied between the non-consumable electrode 6 and water-cooled copper nozzle 7 of a plasma generator and inert gas such as Ar is flowed to let a plasma jet 8 of extra high temperature and high speed be generated. A metal wire material 9 of the same composition as those of the intended powder is supplied into this plasma jet 8. The metal wire materil 9 is instantaneously melted by the plasma jet 8 and becomes fine molten metal which then flies in a powder- capturing chamber 11 connected to the device. Inert gas such as Ar is being flowed through the suction hole 12 on the side in proximity to the plasma jet generator of the chamber 11 and is being exhausted through the exhaust hole 13 on the other end side, thus the inside of the chamber 11 is controlled to the inert atmosphere. Hence, the fine molten metal powder having flown freezes without being contaminated by oxygen, etc. and falls onto the floor surface of the chamber 11.
