Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide a material described in the title having simultaneously sufficiet saturated magnetic flux dinsity and remarkably improved corrosion resistance, by coating fine wire of a ferromagnetic material with glass. CONSTITUTION:Fine wire, e.g., 5-500mu, pref., 10-100mu, of a material having high saturated magnetic flux density, e.g., mild steel, iron-silicon system, iron-aluminum system, or iron-cobalt system etc. is coated with a glass layer (Pyrex, Vycol, or silica glass etc.) 0.1-20mu, pref., 0.5-3mu in thickness to produce material for high gradient magnetic separator. For example, a solution to be treated is admitted through an inlet 3 and pased through a separator, where particles of ferromagnetic material and paramagnetic material are adsorbed on the surface of fine wire of ferromagnetic material by the magnetic field produced by an electromagnet 2 and the magnetic field gradient generated by a filter 1 of fine wires of ferromagnetic substance, the treated soln. being discharged through an outlet 4.
