Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:An antibiotic substance having the planar structure of formula I (R is H, glycyl, carbamoylglycyl, or formylglycyl; the amino group may be protected), and its acid addition salt.
EXAMPLE: 5-De-O-methyl-DA-6606 I.
USE: Antibacterial agent having higher activity than the KA-6606 antibiotics which are effective to gram positive bacteria, gram negative bacteria and acid-fast bacteria.
PROCESS: The compound I is prepared by reacting the KA-6606 free base II isolated from the culturing medium of KC-6606 strain of Saccharopolyspora genus, with a Lewis acid such as boron trichloride, boron trifluoride, etc., thereby opening the 5- position methyl ether of the base.
