Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase greatly a maximum gate turn-off current by setting the application time of the output voltage of a 1st negative gate power supply nearly as long as a junction part recovers its reverse stopping capability. CONSTITUTION:Turn-off gate current supply 23 consists of 1st and 2nd current supplies 41 and 42; power supply 41 consists of power supply 51, diode 52, capacitor 53, resistances 54, 55 and 57, thyristor 56 and primary winding, and power supply 42 of power supply 61, resistances 57 and 64, diode 62, capcitor 63, and thyristor 65. A no-load voltage developed across the secondary winding of transformer 21 through the discharge of capacitor 53 becomes higher than the gate- cathode reverse breakdown voltage of GTO3 and this voltage is maintained for reverse stopping recovery time; and in the same way, a no-load voltage developed through the discharge of capacitor 63 is made less than the gate-cathode reverse breakdown voltage of GTO3 and this stage is continued for longer than the secondary recovery time.
