Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I [R1 and R2 are H, -CH2SR3(R3 is alkyl or aryl group which may be substituted), however, both R1 and R2 are not H].
EXAMPLE: 1-Methylthiomethyl-5-fluorouracil.
USE: Carcinostatics effective against mouse leukemia L-1210.
PROCESS: 5-Fluoro-2,4-bis-trimethyl-silyloxypyrimidine is reacted with a chloride of the formula Cl-CH2SR3 in the presence of an acid catalyst, e.g. SnCl4, iron chloride, TiCl4,or AlCl3 at room temperature to 120°C, e.g. 70°C for 1hr, to give the objective compound of formula I.
