Abstract
PURPOSE: To facilitate charge of additive and reduce the volume of molten metal, by deviating the reaction chamber of vertical split mold with respect to the fitting face of either one of right and left molds.
CONSTITUTION: A sprue 5 opening upward is formed in the vertical direction in a vertical split mold 1 which is split into left and right molds 3, 4 from the fitting face 2 in the vertical direction. In the bottom of the sprue 5 is formed a reaction chamber 6 to which is communicated one of the runner 8. The runner 8 goes up from the reaction chamber 6, and the other end thereof is communicated to a cavity 10 through a weir 9. The reaction chamber 6 is designed as being deviated towards the left mold 3 with respect to the fitting face 2, and the relation of the width S1, S2 of the reaction chamber 6a, 6b formed respectively in molds 3, 4 is S1>S2. These molds 3, 4 are, after charging the additive 7 into the reaction chamber 6a while they are being separated, are joined together, and molten metal 11 is charged into the sprue 5 from a ladle 12. The molten metal 11 flows into the reaction chamber 6 to melt the additive 7, and is then introduced into the cavity 10 through runner 8 and weir 9.
