Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove the unburnt carbon in a slurry white has adsorbed SO2 gas selectively by a method wherein a weir, a valve and an overflow pipe connected to a defoamer are installed near an upper liquid surface of an oxidizing tower, and rising unburnt carbon is separated.
CONSTITUTION: A contacting device for gas and liquid is constructed in such a manner that an overflow pipe is mounted near the surface of the liquid in an oxidizing device using a gas containing atomized oxygen in order to recover sulfite as a by-product.
