Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent a 11Cr type ferritic stainless steel used as a combustion cylinder from gathering red rust in its early stage wothout carrying out special surface treatement by adding a specified amount of Si to the steel.
CONSTITUTION: This ferritic stainless steel contains C<0.08%, Si; 1.5W3.0%, Mn<2% and Cr; 9W15% or further contains one or more among Zr, Ti and Nb in an amount of not more than 1.5 times as much as the total amount of C and N. This steel is continuous-cast, and the ingot is cooled while maintaining the surface temp. at 150°C or above followed by heating to about 1,200°C as an ordinary hot rolling temp., rolling at a slight reduction ratio and slow cooling. When the red heat combustion cylinder of a heater is manufactured using the resulting steel products, SiO2 is formed in scale. Since the oxygen partial pressure at the interface between metal and scale is determined according to the dissociation equilibrium of SiO2, it is lowered to such a degree that Fe is not oxidized, preventing formation of red rust of Fe2O3.
