Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a corrosion-resistant low-expansion alloy effective as a bimetal base material or a scaling material which essentially consists of specific proportion of Ni and Cu and the remaining iron including a small amount of impurities. CONSTITUTION:A low expansion alloy consists of as major components Ni: 25- 50wt%, Cu: 1-25wt%, and the remaining Fe including unavoidable impurities. This alloy allows part of Fe to be replaced with Cr: 1-20wt%. The alloy is Fe-Ni- Cu alloy having low expansion and corrosion resistance such that its corrosion resistance is sufficient for practical use in the atmosphere and its thermal expansion coefficient alpha is 3.4X10<-6>/ deg.C. A more corrosion resistance one is a Fe-Ni-Cu-Cr alloy having a thermal expansion coefficient alpha of 4.7X10<-6>/ deg.C.
