Abstract
A corrosion resistant stainless pore-free steel of austenitic structure includes 15-45% Mn, 10-30% Cr, 0.85-3% N, more than zero- 1% C, 0-2% Si and >=1 of the three elements Cu, Ni and Mo in the following quantities, 1-3% Cu 1-4% Ni or 1-5% Mo, the total quantity of the three elements not exceeding 5% of the alloy, the remainder being Fe and impurities. The composition is such that the following two equations are satisfied: (a) % Cr + % Mo + 0.8 (%Mn) - 11.8 (%N-0.1)-1.23(%Ni)-(28.5 + %Cu) O, (b) 30(%C + %N) + 0.5(;Mn) + % Ni >=1.5 % Cr + % Mo + 1.5 (% Si), by selection of the component elements, a stainless steel low in nickel can be obtained with good resistance to acid attack by HCl and H2SO4.
