Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the deformation of the projection due to the rubbing action of the roll, by forming the caliber shape of the finishing universal mill into irregular shape differing correspondingly to the position along the rolling direction.
CONSTITUTION: In respect of the shape of the caliber to be made in the vertical mill, the raper angle θ1 of the caliber on the top side in the rolling direction is specified to a range 50°≤θ1≤60°, the radius R of the round corner is specified to a range 0.003Rv<R<0.008Rv (in which Rv is the radius of the vertical roll), and the taper angle θ2 of the caliber on the bottom side in the rolling direction is specified to 50° or smaller angle. Additionally, in respect of the caliber shape, the oblique plane of the caliber on the top side in the rolling direction is formed into a circular arc shape cooking downward, and its radius of curvature R1 is specified to 1.0hR<R1<2.0hR (where hR is the depth of the caliber). The taper angle θ2 of the caliber on the bottom side in the rolling direction is specified to 60° or smaller angle. In the way of forecasting the rubbing action of the roll as above mentioned, the shape of the caliber on the top side in the rolling direction is made different from that on the bottom side.
