Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the occurrence of edge crack phenomena and improve yield by forming the corner angle parts of the slab for plate to be subjected to plate rolling to the shape having the roundness of the specific radius of curvature and performing plate rolling.
CONSTITUTION: In order to prevent the edge crack phenomena at the plate rolling of a slab for plate, the corner angle parts of the slab are formed to the shape given with roundness of radius of curvature of 20W80mm. With the slab of such shape, the local temperature decrease at the corner angle parts which is a cause for edge crack is prevented when it is extracted from heating furnaces. Because of this, the edge crack at the plate rolling, particularly, at the 1st molding pass where edge crack occurs frequently is prevented and the satisfactory plate is obtainable. As a result of this, the yield of product increases by about 2%.
