Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce heat losses and secure stable high quality by directly heating the continuously cast slabs in a soaking pit, lightly rolling the same with a blooming mill and if necessary, preparing the surfaces then hot rolling the same. CONSTITUTION:The hot slabs (ordinarily 1000 deg.C or higher) out from, e.g., continuous casting plant 1, are hot conveyed 2 and are put into a soaking pit 3. The methods of putting these into the pit include those by placing the slabs 13 on the steel ingots 12 which have complete heating or stacking plural sheets of slabs 13, 13 by way of frefractories 14 and others. The slabs having been heated from the loading temperature 800 deg.C up to about extraction temperatures 1150 to 1300 deg.C in the pit 3 in this way are subjected to light rolling mainly intended for edging (broadside reduction) in compliance with the roll schedule of hot rolling in a blooming mill 4. Since this ability is large, the width changing in continuous casting may be made nil or reduced to 1 to 2 times. Next, the slabs are inspected 5 of surface flaws, etc. and if necessary they are removed of flaws by a hot scarfer 6, after which they are reinspected 7 and are directly fed to hot rolling plant 11, whereby the hot rolled coils are produced.
