Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce temp. differences over the entire length of steel materials and to improve yield by reducing the differences in the broadside temp. distributions of continuously cast high temp. ingots then rolling the part which has been later in advance of the one which has been cast earlier. CONSTITUTION:The high temp. ingot cast with a continuous casting device A is cut to a prescribed size with a gas cutter to make unit ingots. The end parts of the unit ingots are heated in an end part induction heater 9 and the directions of the ingots are changed in a turntable device 10 to position the parts cast later (trailing ends) first; in this state, they are gnawed into a roughing mill 16. Then they are rolled with a finishing mill 17 to make long-sized strips which are coiled with a coiler 18. Here, the surface flaws or temps. of the ingots are inspected with a hot flaw detector (or temp. detector) 11, and when both do not attain set reference values, the ingots are fed to a reheating furnace 14 or a flaw removing device 15 by the device 10, where they are subjected to prescribed treatments, after which they are returned to the conveying route.
