Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to discriminate even the kind of a flaw by making use of a difference in the phase angle of a signal, induced depending upon whether the flaw exists, according to the kind of the flaw.
CONSTITUTION: Between coil 2 on the oscillator 1 side and search coil 4 of balancing unit 3, sample 5 such as a metal wire material is made to run. When sample 5 has a flaw, balancing unit 3 loses its balance to output an out-of-phase signal. Phase deciding circuit 13 makes a phase decision on the out-of-phase signal and reference signal to extract a signal corresponding to the phase difference, and then records it by recorder 10. Consequently, the kind of the flaw can be discriminated by referring the output level to relations between phase angles and the kinds of flaws.
