Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect accurately the length of a vehicle by calculating the length of the vehicle by determining the vehicle speed and its coil passing time via two search coils forming an alternating-current bridge circuit.
CONSTITUTION: Once search coils 3 and 3' forming the alternating-current bridge circuit detect vehicle 2, the bridge becomes unbalanced to generate a detection signal. Vehicle detection signals generated by coils 3 and 3' are processed by the Schmitt circuit and the counter counts up clocks passing through the gate which is open during the period from the generation of a Schmitt signal corresponding to coils 3' until that of a Schmitt signal corresponding to coil 3', so that the speed of the vehicle will be determined. With the gate closed during the vehicle detection period of coil 3, clocks passing through the gate are counted to determine the time vehicle 2 run between coild 3 and both determination values are multiplied each other to detect accurately the length of the vehicle by two search coils.
