Abstract

PURPOSE:To decrease an effective current and reduce the size and weight of a stabilizer for a discharge lamp, by providing a tertiary coil in the primary coil of a leakage transformer and connecting a capacitor between the tertiary coil and the intermediate tap of a secondary coil in parallel with these coils. CONSTITUTION:A primary coil 2 and a secondary coil 3 are provided around the laminated internal core 7 of a shell-type leakage transformer 1 so that a magnetic circuit 8 is provided and a magnetic shunt 81 is defined in the center of the circuit 8. The primary coil 2 comprises a primary winding 21 and a tertiary winding 22 connected in series therewith. An intermediate tap is led out of such a halfway part of the secondary coil 3 that the winding turn ratio is 0.2-0.4. A capacitor 4 is coupled between the intermediate tap and the coiling start point of the tertiary winding 22 in parallel therewith. A discharge lamp coupled in parallel with a glow starter 6 is connected to the terminals of the coils 2, 3. This results in decreasing an effective current flowing through the winding 21 and a part of the coil 3 and in enabling the reduction in the diameter of wire.
