PURPOSE:To prevent commutation failure in the thyristor due to the variation in various operational conditions, such as power supply voltage, load condition, ambient temperature, etc., by setting the coupling coefficient of primary and secondary windings of the ignition coil between 0.3 and 0.8. CONSTITUTION:The ignition coil is composed of primary winding 2 and secondary winding 3 wound around suitable bobbins surrounding magnetic core 1, made of ferrite. Here, primary winding 2 is provided in the central part of rod-shaped magnetic core 1, and on both outer sides of primary winding 2 is placed secondary winding 3, which is divided into two parts. Winding starts 3a of secondary winding 3 are connected in the center part, and winding ends 3b are made into high voltage terminals. In this case, by setting the coupling coefficient k of both windings 2 and 3 between 0.3 and 0.8, where k=M/(L1XL2)<12> (M : mutual inductance coefficient, L1, L2; primary and secondary inductance), commutation failure of the thyristor in the ignition circuit can be prevented.
