Abstract

PURPOSE: To surely open a circuit including a power transformer whose primary winding is connected in series with a thermosensitive circuit breaker, by selecting the resistance of the primary and secondary windings of the power transformer so that the temperature rise of the primary winding is larger than that of the secondary one when an overcurrent flows.
CONSTITUTION: A secondary winding 3 is provided around a core 4. A thermosensitive circuit breaker 6 made of a temperature fuse is installed on the outside of the secondary winding. A primary winding 2 is provided outside the secondary winding 3 and the circuit breaker 6. This circuit breaker is connected between an end of the winding 2 and one terminal 5. A commercial power source 10 is coupled across the terminal 5 and another one 7. A prescribed load 11 is connected across two other terminals 8, 9. The resistance of each of the windings 2, 3 is so set that the temperature rise of the winding 2 is larger than that of the other winding 3 when an overcurrent flows due to a short circuit in the load 11 or across the terminals 8, 9. In that case, the circuit breaker 6 is quickly operated to open the primary winding 2 to prevent a power transformer 1 from burning.
