Abstract

PURPOSE:To manufacture link chain having high strength, high toughness, and high corrosion resistance by the procedure in which an iron steel link chain is subjected to a cementation or/and nitriding treatments, then inserted directly into an Sn alloy fused solution containing Pb, and lastly subjected to hardening and cooling treatments. CONSTITUTION:An iron steel link chain is inserted directly into an Sn alloy fused solution containing 56-78wt% Sn, 22-44wt% Pb, and inevitable impurities and kept at 250 deg.C or less and then subjected to hardening and cooling treatments. Then, the link chain thus hardenend and cooled is pulled up from the fused solution bath to form a thin alloy film on the surface of the link chain. As a result, the hardening and corrosion resistance of the link chain thus treated can be greatly raised. Also, the preferred composition of the link chain material is an iron-based alloy of 0.1- 0.4wt% C, 1wt% or less Si, 3wt% or less Mn, 0.1-1wt% Mo, and Fe.
