Abstract

PURPOSE:To manufacture link chains having high strength, high toughness, and high corrosion resistance by the procedure in which an iron steel link chain is subjected to a cementation treatment, then inserted directly into a fused solution containing fixed proportions of Sn, Bi, and Zn, and lastly subjected to hardening, cooling, and plating treatments concurrently. CONSTITUTION:An iron steel link chain is subjected to a cementation or carbonitriding treatment, then inserted directly into a 250 deg.C or less fused solution containing 30-65wt% Sn, 28-48wt% Bi, 7-12wt% Zn, and impurities, and lastly subjected to hardening and cooling treatments. Thus, the hardening and corrosion resistance of the link chain so treated are greatly raised. Also, the preferred composition of the link chain material is an alloy of 0.1-0.5wt% C, 1wt% or less Si, 3wt% or less Mn, 0.1-1wt% Mo, and Fe.
