Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable formation of a golden anodic oxide film with superior brightness and a uniform hue by adding a specified amt. of Co and Cr to Al to provide improved die castability.
CONSTITUTION: An Al alloy consisting of, by wt., Co 0.5W1.5%, Cr 0.1W0.7%, impurities ≤0.5% and the balance Al or further contg. Fe ≤0.7%. The Co in this alloy compsn. prevents the molten alloy from sticking to dies in die casting and enhances the releasability of castings. In addn., it enhances the mechanical strength of the castings and makes the hue of anodic oxide films thereof uniform. The Cr prevents the anodic oxide film from getting cloudy owing to the Co addn., provides high brightness and a golden color tone to the film, and improves the strength of the alloy. The iron has the action of preventing the molten alloy from sticking to dies so it may be added within a range in which the brightness of the oxide film is not deteriorated.
