Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an Al-Si-graphite alloy contg. dispersed graphite and proeutectic Si having ≤10μm by reducing a molten Al-Si alloy contg. suspended graphite particles to powder by quench-spraying and by hot-rolling the resulting composite powder.
CONSTITUTION: About 5wt% graphite is added to a molten Al-Si alloy consisting, by wt., 11.5W20% Si, 3W6% Cu, 0.3W1.5% Mg and the balance Al, agitated, and reduced to powder by a quench-spraying method. This powder is molded into a billet with a static pressure molding machine, and the billet is hot-rolled at about 500°C.
