Abstract

PURPOSE: The composition for castings of low toxicity and superior workability and disintegration characteristic suitable for a high frequency hardening method obtainable by adding an aqueous solution compounded with the specified water soluble high polymer binder and sodium polyacryate as a thickener to silica sand.
CONSTITUTION: The composition obtainable by adding the aqueous solution compounded with a water soluble high polymer binder, preferably polyvinyl alcohol, at 1 to 50wt% and sodium ployacrylate as a thickener at 0.1 to 1wt% to silica sand at 0.5 to 10wt%. This composition is suited for a high frequency or microwave hardening method and yields the compressive strength after hardening and moisture absorption within a range of 30 to 100kg/cm2. The sodium polyacryate as a thickener is desirably one of about 10,000 to tens of thousands in mean degree of polymerisation.
