Abstract

1494280 Thermal-insulating material PROIZVODSTVENNO-TEKHNICHESKOE OBIEDINENIE ROSORGTEKHSTROM 21 Aug 1975 [28 Aug 1974 11 Oct 1974] 34822/75 Heading C3N A composition for the fabrication of a thermalinsulating material comprises unexpanded water glass, expanded pellets of water glass, an ingredient for promoting hardening of the unexpanded water glass, and an ingredient for imparting hydrophobic properties to the composition. The ingredient for promoting hardening of the unexpanded water glass is sodium fluosilicate, the expanded pellets of water glass may have an average size of 2-10 mm., a density of 40-80 kg/m<SP>3</SP>, and an ultimate compressive strength of 1-4 kg/cm<SP>2</SP> and the composition contains 60-74 wt. per cent of unexpanded water glass, 37À5-23 wt. per cent of expanded pellets of water glass, 2À5-3 wt. per cent of sodium fluosilicate, these percentages being based on the sum of these materials, and 0À5-2 wt. per cent based on the unexpanded water glass of the hydrophobic properties imparting ingredient. Alternatively the ingredient for promoting hardening of the unexpanded water glass may be orthophosphorie acid in which case the expanded pellets of water glass may be crushed and have an average size not over 2À5 mm., and the composition contains 33-43 wt. per cent of unexpanded water glass, 55-65 wt. per cent of crushed pellets of expanded water glass, 1À0-1À3 wt. per cent of orthophosphoric acid, and 0À7-1À0 wt. per cent of the hydrophobic component, to which is added 40-42 wt. per cent of water based on the total of the other ingredients. The "hydrophobic" component may be an organosilicon compound, e.g. sodium polyethylenesiliconate, sodium polymethylsiliconate and polyethyhydrosiloxane.
