Abstract

Mastic cement composition which can be pumped and sprayed to form a porous, dried product, and applied to metallic building units to form fireproof, sound-insulating coating, contains a foam material in an Mg oxide cement slurry. Cement consists of MgO and either MgCl2 or MgSO4; slurry contains an inorganic filler, pref . asbestos fibres or mica, and foam is prepared previously by aeration of a solution of foaming agent, pref. protein hydrolysate, esp. derived from hoof-and-horn meal. 2-10% aqs. foaming agent soln. is aerated, pref. under 3.52-10.5 kg/sq.cm., and added to pref. slurry containing 10-35 parts MgO, 5-9.3 parts Mg salt, 30-90 parts fibrous filler and 100-200 parts (by weight) water.
