Abstract
834,876. Mould and core-materials. MO OCH DOMSJO A.B. Sept. 4, 1958 [Sept. 5, 1957], No. 28495/58. Class 83 (1). A mould or core-mixture comprises sand, an alkaline-earth-metal oxide or hydroxide. such as calcium-hydroxide and water, and is hardened by CO 2 , Other organic binders may be added,-such as water-soluble cellulose-esters and ethers such as methylcellulose, ethylcelllllose, hydroxyethylcellulose, methyl-ethylcellulose, carboxymethylcellulose, ethylhydroxyethylcellulose, sulpho - ethylcellulose, hydroxyethyl - carboxymethylcellulose, cellulose - sulphate, and sugars, starch, dextrin and other polysaccharides, thermosetting-plastics such as pheno-, urea- and melamine-plastics, if desired combined with hardening-agents, polyvinylchloride, and glue, natural resins, casein, sulphite-waste liquor, and core-oils. Other additives referred to are water-glass, plaster of Paris, or cement, the last combined if desired with an accelerator such as calcium-chloride, and ammonia or mono- or triethanolamine. The alkaline-earth metal hydroxide or oxide should be about 1-10% of the weight of the sand, organic-binder if used 0.1-3%, moisturecontent of sand 0.5-6%, cement or plaster of Paris, if used, 0.1-5%. The mould or core may be treated with CO 2 only until it has sufficient firmness for handling, and then baked in a furnace for complete hardening.
