Abstract

Objects made of concrete or precast stone, having a basis of Portland or other hydraulic cement are cured by exposing them, when set but while still green, e.g., when about 24 hours old, to a stream of carbon dioxide or waste combustion gases under a pressure of at least 0.6 lbs. per square inch and at a temperature not substantially above 70 DEG C., means being also provided for removing excess moisture. The operation may be conducted in a closed chamber provided with means for the admission and discharge of carbon dioxide and for draining away the moisture. Treatment may be carried out in an atmosphere containing about 20 per cent. of carbon dioxide at a temperature of approximately 40 DEG C. and at a pressure of 1 lb. per square inch for a period of 40-50 hours.
