Abstract

A refractory composition comprises zirconium boride impregnated with molybdenum silicide. The zirconium boride may be self bonded or bonded with oxides of zirconium and calcium, as in Specification 711,444. Articles are obtained by placing moulded zirconium boride or zirconium boride and calcium zirconate in contact with molybdenum silicide, or the elements thereof, and firing, in an inert atmosphere or a vacuum, to above 1800 DEG C. A temporary binder may be added to assist moulding. The composition may be used for abrasive purposes, e.g. grinding wheels.
