Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the accumulation of toner films on carrier particle surfaces and enhance durability by covering the core material surfaces with an inorganic glass layer.
CONSTITUTION: After glass raw materials having been blended to a desired composition are melted, the melt is quenched and is ground to about 200 mesh by a ball mill. This is then made to a suspension together with additives. This suspension is sprayed over a circulating fluidized bed by a spray gun or the like and is thereby sprayed onto the surfaces of the core materials of preferably 100 to 500μ in mean particle size whose surfaces have beforehand been degreased with a halogenated hycrocarbon base solvent. After it has been dried, it is baked in a high temperature furnace. Thereby, stable and desired triboelectrification characteristics are imparted and either positive or negative charging characteristics may be selected as desired by selecting the materials of the covering material. Suitable coverage of the inorganic glass layer is 0.1 to 1.5 wt.%.
