NEW MATERIAL:Glucosamine derivatives or their salts of formula I (R is lower alkyl; R1 is H or aralkyl; R2 is R; R3 is carboxyl which may be esterified).
EXAMPLE: N-Acethylmuramine-2-aminoisobutyroyl-D-isoglutamine. USES:Low toxic and effective to enhance the immunity function. Useful as preventives for infections diseases. carcinogenic agents, etc.
PROCESS: The desired compound of formula I is prepared by (1) activating carboxyl group of a compound of formula II (R' is R1 or a protecting group; R4-5 are protecting groups) such as 1-α-0-benzyl-4,6-0-benzylidene-N-acetylmuramic acid, (2) condensing the activated compound II with a compound of formula III (R3' is R3 or protected carboxyl) such as 2-aminoisobutyroyl-D-isoglutamine benzyl ester, in a solvent at 0 to about 80°C, and (3)subsequently removing the protecting groups.
