Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a hydrogen engine, in which a hydrogen gas supplying port is provided separately from the suction and the exhaust ports, and output of the engine is controlled by changing the time period when a hydrogen supply valve for the hdrogen gas supplying port is opened, in accordance with the load factor, to suit the use of low-pressure hydrogen gas.
CONSTITUTION: At the head of cylinder 2, there are provided a hydrogen supply valve 8 in addition to exhaust valve 6 and suction valve 7. Amount of hydrogen supplyed into the cylinder 2 is controlled by changing the time length when hydrogen supply valve 5 is opened, with pressure of hydrogen gas supplied being kept constant. From the suction port 4, only air is supplied into cylinder 2. Here, the suction port 4 is not provided with a throttle valve, since amount of air supplied to the cylinder 2 is not controlled. Suction valve 7 is closed at the bottom dead center at the end of suction cycle, whereas hydrogen supply valve 8 is opened at the bottom dead center, so that there is no overlap of these valves 7 and 8. The time when the valve 8 is closed is changed within the time range from the time when the piston is located at the bottom dead center to the time when ignition is started, in accordance with the load factor, and amount of hydrogen supplied to the cylinder is controlled by the resultant change of the time length when the valve 8 is kept open. Since hydrogen supplying pressure is higher than the pressure in cylinder 2, it is prevented that air flows back into supply port 5
