Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a hydrogen engine, in which output of the engine is controlled by means of a pressure regulating valve provided in a hydrogen gas supplying pipe that is provided separately from the suction pipe and the exhaust pipe, such that low-pressure hydrogen gas can be used suitably as fuel.
CONSTITUTION: In addition to exhaust valve 6 and suction valve 7, a hydrogen supply valve 8 is provided at the head of cylinder 2, and hydrogen gas supplying pipe 5 is provided with check valve 10 and pressure regulating valve 9 for controlling the output of engine. The output of engine is cotrolled by changing the amount of hydrogen gas supplied into cylinder 2 by means of pressure regulating valve 9. From te suction piep 4, only air is supplied into cylinder 2, and amount of air supplied is not controlled, so that suction pipe 4 is not provided with a throttle valve. When pressure of hydrogen gas supplied is low, it is prevented by the check valve 10 that air in cylinder 2 flows back into supply pipe 5. Since there is no overlap when both of the suction valve 7 and hydrogen supply valve 8 are opened simultaneously, volumetric efficiency is improved and no back-fire is caused. Thus, the hydrogen engine arranged as above can be operated with high efficiency, with low-pressure hydrogen gas used as fuel
