Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide an arrangement for engine, capable of supplying secondary air sufficiently over a wide load range, by providing a secondary-air passage having one end opened in the exhaust port, and extending the secondary-air passage along the case for the suction cam shaft so that the other end of the passage is opened on the downstream side of a check-valve chamber disposed at an upper portion.
CONSTITUTION: When exhaust valve 15 is opened, combustion gas is discharged from combustion chamber 11 into exhaust port 17, so that pressure in the exhaust port 17 is raised and therefore check valve 27 is kept in its closed condition. When pressure in combustion chamber 11 becomes negative at the end of exhaust stroke or at the end of expansion stroke during low-load operation of engine and the negative pressure is transmitted to the inside of exhaust port 17, it is acted to check valve 29 via secondary-air passsge 24, so that check valve 29 is opened. Resultantly, atmospheric air is introduced from secondary-air passage 24 into exhaust port 17 via filter 53 and check valve 29. By thus extending the secondary-air passage 24 smoothly along the suction-cam case and connecting the same to exhaust port 17, it is enabled to reduce the flow resistance and to supply secondary air effieicntly.
