Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the title compound in high yield and purity, by the ester exchange reaction of ethyl (meth)acrylate with glycide, in the presence of an aromatic monocarboxylic acid metal salt as a catalyst which can be easily and completely removed from the reaction solution.
CONSTITUTION: Glycidyl (meth)acrylate is prepared by reacting 1 mole of glycide with 2W15 moles of methyl (meth)acrylate in the presence of a catalyst comprising 0.005W0.1 mole, pref. 0.01W0.05 mole of an aromatic monocarboxylic acid metal salt such as K, Na, Mg, Ca, Ba, Zn, Sn, Pb, Cu, Ni salt of (alkyl)benzoic acid, (alkyl)naphtoic acid, salicylic acid, etc., esp. potassium salt, most pref. potassium benzoate, or potassium salicylate.
