NEW MATERIAL:A (2-thienylseleno)acetic acid expressed by the formula(R is H, alkyl or halogen).
EXAMPLE: (2-Thienylseleno)acetic acid.
USE: An intermediate for medicines and an antioxidant.
PROCESS: A metallic salt of 2-thienylselenol is reacted with an alkali metallic salt or alkyl ester of a monohaloacetic acid at 5W65°C to give the compound expressed by the formula. The metallic salt of the 2-thienylselenol which is a starting raw material is prepared by reacting thiophene with an alkali metal, preferably an alkyl lithium, e.g. n-butyl lithium, and selenium.
